So Little Time

Posted by revolverroach at 04:26 PM on November 1, 2004.

Browsing through my old files I found a Flash file I put in cold storage back when I did Flash for fun. Here's a little clip of the graphics I'd done for it.

See all the little body parts scattered around the bottom? Each is a separate flash image object. The three full figures on top are made from combinations of those itty bitty parts. All this took me about 15 hours to make.

This was the first flash file that I conceptualized BEFORE doing (most if not all of my other work were made on whims) Anyway, for those of you who are familiar with side-scrolling adventure games the likes of Golden Axe, Final Fight and the classic Double Dragon it was supposed to be something like that except it would be chibi like Ragnarok Online and as flashy as Guilty Gear. Ah, and the story was inspired by Shaman King, Jojo's Bizzare Adventures and Berserk. If you know what I'm talking about then you have an idea what the game's supposed to look like.

And after conceptualization came the storyboarding. That was fun. I have it all neatly written down in a notebook somewhere in my room. All of that toook me roughly a week.

And then came the Planning where I would determine how much work I would actually do. I made a list of the number of objects I would need to draw (draw meaning draw first on paper, then roughly on Flash and then make a Vector image based on the rough sketch) By the time I was done calculating how much work it would take I was getting chills.

Roughly 200 separate images, 50 animations, a handful of scripts and 300 hours of work. All for a flash that would last no longer than 15 minutes to be uploaded to Newgrounds where anyone can watch it for free (meaning no profit for me)

-sigh-

But really, I would have liked to finish this, and many other works. If only I had the time and discipline...

First Time...

Posted by revolverroach at 01:25 AM on November 10, 2004.

... I beat Caz in 1 on 1 Monopoly! Official score is now...

Caz : Me!
5 : 1

Our Monopoly game! The stuff on the far side is miiiine!
The Yan-yan is hers. She ate my Yan-yan on the way to Coffeeheads.

How did I win this time? Strategy!

Caz and I shared a meal at Shakey's big enough for 3 or 4 people.

- Spaghetti Platter (huge plate of pasta!)
- Pitcher of Rootbeer
- Basket of Mojo Potatoes (50% off!)
- Solo Cheesburger Pizza

Then I bought her Yan-Yan and steamed milk. With her mind on her swollen tummy and not on the game, I went for the WIN! Mwahaha!

Caz and Bruce Sepia print at Eyrie Cafe... Damn, I need a shave.

Caz and Bruce tongueing... No, not THAT way you pervs!

'Til the morrow...

Don't Put On That Rubber

Posted by revolverroach at 10:21 AM on November 13, 2004.

Accessories are meant to enhance your look. To display your individuality, wether it be earrings, a necklace, bracelets or a trendy watch...

... and then Nike steps in with

THE NIKE BALLER ID

Seriously. It's nothing more than a glorified rubber band with the Nike logo stamped on it. And people pay up to $5 for it. Locally, the fakes sell for around Php15 (about $0.25), still pricey for such a peice of junk.

It wouldn't be so bad if they were functional like wrist watches

Came in hundreds of colors and designs like bead bracelets

Intricately designed as an arm bands

or A potential weapon like the spiked wrist straps

But the Baller ID is none of the above. It's plain, standard sized and comes in so few colors that you're likely to see three or four of the same color just walking five minutes in the mall. The most functionality you can get out of it is to stretch it over your fore and middle finger and sling-shot peanuts at the people passing by.

Also, speaking in the Philippine context, most of the colors clash with our skin. Please, if you're going to buy one of the damned things, at least have the sense to get one that suits you. If you're as brown as the earth you walk on, don't wear baby blue.

Off to class for me
Where I will inevitably see
Hundred of rubber bands
Made by Nike

Sadako Nights

Posted by revolverroach at 04:34 PM on November 18, 2004.

Last night I woke up...

... And in the darkness above me was a girl with long long hair. My vision blurred as her hands tightened around my neck...

... And last night I woke up, gasping for breath. I looked up and thankfully all I see is my ceiling...

... And then my pillows start flying through the air, straight into my face...

... And last night I woke up, facing the wall, clutching a pillow. I slowly turn...

... And see a shadowy hand hovering above my chest...

.. And last night I woke up...

... Clapping my hands together I begin to pray the Our Father. I rush out of my room not daring to look back

- - -

No joke. That was downright scary.

I spent the next 2 hours drawing in the dining room, trying to get my mind off my nightmare(s). With all the lights on. But at least I came up with this.

Was supposed to be me and Caz but the faces came out wrong so now it's just a random couple

Oooh. Parents are home. I'm off to pick up my Caz now.

You Got Game?

Posted by revolverroach at 02:57 AM on November 26, 2004.

WORLD OF WARCRAFT

For us Filipino players all twiddling our thumbs wondering when Azeroth will open its doors to us, here is a bit of news.

In just one day, World of Warcraft sold through an estimated 250,000 copies to players. Over 200,000 accounts have already been created, and peak concurrency across all active game servers has been above 100,000. The account-creation and concurrent-user populations are both record numbers for a MMORPG on its first day of launch, making World of Warcraft the fastest-growing online game in history. World of Warcraft is expected to continue to shatter records and achieve a record-setting week-one population in the days ahead.

... ah, the sting of envy.

POCKET KINGDOM

An MMO for the N-Gage that's a a cross between an RTS (for the army vs. army system) and an RPG (for the items and skills system)

Non-Gamer's Legend
MMO : Massively Multiplayer Online (Game)
RTS : Real-Time Strategy
RPG : Role Playing Game

Oh. And this little flash banner had me chuckling for quite a while

Besides Beast and Bought & Sold I've been learning Wolfgang's Darkness Fell... Damned beautiful song.

DARKNESS FELL

And so she woke up from a dream
That was beautiful starry and so wild
It was all still clear in her eyes
And though her mind was foggy
And blank she wondered why
Her life couldn't be as lovely
it was time...

There was this king he had no castle or throne
But his horse was great and white
He rode alone and liked it that way
But when he met her he swore
He would never leave her side...

They rode across the land
Two lovers hand in hand
And no danger could come near
And when something made her cry
She'd look at him teary eyed
And he would make her feel better
Oh so much better so much better than before

And now this forest was their home
It was a night time
And the right time for love
In the dark
She placed her hand upon his chest
And all the rest just flowed
Makin' love down under an ancient far away night

It was so grand just holdin' someone's hand
And now safety came naturally
It was so clear that she would never ever have to fear

Oh tell me a story of magic and spiralling ships
And stars in the night
Just whisper in my ears
Make it soft but make it clear
I want to hear every breath you say

And now this forest was their home
It was a night time
And the right time for love
In the dark
She placed his hand upon her breast
And all the rest just flowed
Makin' love down under an ancient far away night

But she woke up from the land
Tears falling in her hands
As she looked up askin' why
She laid back in her bed
Thoughts raising in her head
Why can't my life be beautiful she said
As she closed her eyes again
Just prayin' he'd return
But only Darkness Fell upon her

So of course I only finish the flyer less than a week before the gig. At least this one more suits the gig, unlike the previouse one that looked like an ad for a disco event. This drawing was inspired by Alfons Mucha and a skater's deck design that I spotted while hanging outside The Bloger's Night at Fudge. Who was there?

In order of appearance..

Sheng (singer! kaso ano nga pala yung song... Eternal Flame?)
